Greater Palm Springs Restaurants Reopening for Fall 2026

Greater Palm Springs Restaurants Reopening for Fall 2026

There is a certain point every summer when those of us who live in the Coachella Valley start looking ahead to fall.

The afternoons may still be hot, but the days are getting shorter. Seasonal residents begin talking about their return to the desert. Calendars start filling up again. And, perhaps most importantly for local food lovers, some of our favorite Greater Palm Springs restaurants begin turning their lights back on.

Summer restaurant closures are simply part of life in the desert. With temperatures climbing and tourism slowing considerably, many locally owned restaurants use July, August and part of September to give their teams a break, complete maintenance and prepare for another busy season.

As locals, there are actually plenty of things we love about summer. Restaurants that stay open can be wonderfully quiet, reservations are easier to find, and the slower pace gives you a chance to enjoy the Coachella Valley without the crowds.

Still, we miss our favorites.

That is why the restaurant reopenings that begin in August and continue through September and October feel like one of the unofficial signs that a new desert season is approaching.

From longtime Palm Springs institutions to elegant restaurants along El Paseo and some of our favorite dining rooms in Rancho Mirage and La Quinta, here are the Greater Palm Springs restaurants reopening for fall 2026 that we have on our calendar.

Three Restaurants We’re Especially Excited to Welcome Back

With so many restaurants returning, picking favorites isn't easy. But there are a few reopenings we are particularly looking forward to this year.

Wally’s Desert Turtle — Rancho Mirage

Reopening October 9, 2026

Few restaurants feel as quintessentially Rancho Mirage as Wally’s Desert Turtle.

Wally’s is the type of restaurant that turns dinner into an occasion. Its history in the Coachella Valley, distinctive dining room and classic approach to service have made it a longtime destination for special dinners, celebrations and evenings when you want something a little more polished.

The restaurant was created by Wally Botello, founder of The Velvet Turtle restaurant chain, with its distinctive interiors designed by celebrated designer Steven Chase. Today, a third generation of the Botello family is involved in carrying on the restaurant's legacy.

The food matches the setting, with a menu built around classic fine dining with a California influence. Think Dover sole, rack of lamb, seafood and the kind of soufflé that makes ordering dessert almost mandatory.

Wally's is currently closed for the summer season and lists October 9, 2026 as its reopening date.

For us, seeing Wally's reopen is one of those little signs that Rancho Mirage is shifting back into season.

Lavender Bistro — La Quinta

Reopening October 1, 2026

If you have ever had dinner outside at Lavender Bistro on a beautiful desert evening, you probably understand why we look forward to its return.

Lavender has long been one of La Quinta's most atmospheric dinner spots. Its garden patio, greenery and evening lighting create a setting that feels almost hidden away from the surrounding desert.

It's especially wonderful once our evening temperatures begin to drop and outdoor dining becomes one of the great pleasures of living in the Coachella Valley again.

Inside, the restaurant continues the same warm atmosphere with French-paned windows overlooking the patio and a dining room that feels elegant without being overly formal.

Lavender Bistro is expected to reopen October 1, 2026, just as La Quinta begins transitioning into its busiest time of year.

This one is definitely on our fall dinner list.

The Return of Palm Springs’ Restaurant Scene

Palm Springs has the largest collection of restaurant reopenings on our list, and that's not surprising.

The city has one of the most diverse dining scenes in the Coachella Valley, from tiny cafés and neighborhood lunch spots to destination restaurants that have been part of Palm Springs life for decades.

By late August, the restaurant scene begins coming back to life. September brings an even larger wave of reopenings, followed by several October returns.

Among the Palm Springs restaurants we are watching this year are:

  • Cheeky’s — August 14
  • Front Porch — August 21
  • Farm — August 24
  • Toast’d — August 28
  • La Perlita — August 31
  • Miro’s — September 3
  • Zin American Bistro — September 3
  • Copley’s on Palm Canyon — September 4
  • Tyler’s Burgers — September 4
  • L’Atelier Café — September 5
  • Peninsula Pastries — September 10
  • Sherman’s — September 15
  • PS Underground — September 19
  • Café Mon Amour — September 20
  • Desert Moon — September 20
  • Jake’s — dinner service September 24; lunch and brunch return in October
  • La Vallauris — September 24
  • Kaiser Grille — reopening date to be announced

There are restaurants on this list for just about every type of Palm Springs day.

You might start with breakfast at Cheeky's, grab something sweet from Peninsula Pastries, enjoy lunch downtown and finish with a special dinner at Copley's, Jake's or one of the city's other longtime favorites.

Copley's is especially worth mentioning for visitors searching for a classic Palm Springs experience. Located on a portion of the former Cary Grant estate, its setting combines old Palm Springs history with mountain views and outdoor dining. The restaurant currently confirms a September 4 reopening for Labor Day weekend.

Jake's is another reopening locals watch closely each year. The restaurant currently says it will return for dinner on September 24, followed by lunch and brunch in October.

And that staggered return is part of what makes late summer and early fall interesting here. The desert doesn't suddenly switch from "summer" to "season" on one particular weekend. It happens gradually.

One restaurant reopens. Then another. Outdoor patios start filling up. Events return to the calendar. Traffic picks up. Friends who disappeared to cooler climates start coming home.

Before long, Greater Palm Springs feels like itself again.

Rancho Mirage Restaurants Reopening

Wally’s Desert Turtle — October 9, 2026

Rancho Mirage has fewer seasonal restaurant closures on our current list, but its big fall return is certainly an important one.

Wally's Desert Turtle is scheduled to reopen October 9.

The restaurant's own website currently confirms that it is closed for the season and will return on October 9, making this one of the dates on our list we can officially circle.

For Rancho Mirage residents, Wally's is more than somewhere to have dinner. It is part of the city's identity—a reminder of the classic resort-town elegance that continues to define much of Rancho Mirage.

Cathedral City Restaurants Reopening

Michael’s Café — September 4, 2026

Cathedral City joins the September restaurant return with Michael's Café expected to reopen September 4.

Cathedral City sometimes gets overlooked when people talk about the Greater Palm Springs dining scene, but locals know that some excellent independent restaurants are tucked throughout the city.

It is also one of the reasons we recommend exploring beyond downtown Palm Springs when looking for places to eat in the Coachella Valley. Some of the desert's best discoveries happen when you venture into the individual communities and neighborhood restaurants that locals frequent year-round.

Palm Desert Restaurants Reopening

Palm Desert's restaurant scene begins waking back up toward the end of August, with another round of openings arriving in September and October.

August Reopenings

Castelli's Ristorante — August 28, 2026
Café des Beaux-Arts — August 28, 2026

These late-August returns are perfectly timed for locals ready to get back to some of their favorite dining rooms.

September Reopenings

The Fix on El Paseo — September 1, 2026

As September arrives, El Paseo itself begins feeling different. Restaurants become busier, stores prepare for fall, and there is a noticeable shift toward the upcoming season.

October Reopenings

Mitch's on El Paseo Prime Seafood — October 1, 2026

Mitch's is another restaurant whose reopening feels closely tied to the return of season in Palm Desert.

Located at the eastern end of El Paseo near Portola Avenue, Mitch's combines seafood, sushi, cocktails and expansive outdoor spaces with views of the surrounding mountains. The restaurant currently confirms that it is closed for summer and will return in October.

By October, El Paseo dining is generally moving back into full swing—and so is Palm Desert.

La Quinta Restaurants Reopening

La Quinta has one of our favorite concentrations of restaurants in the eastern Coachella Valley, particularly around Old Town La Quinta and along Highway 111.

Several familiar names are returning this fall.

Fortun's Kitchen + Bar — September 6, 2026

Fortun's is expected back relatively early in the season, reopening September 6.

It's a great example of the more contemporary side of La Quinta dining and another welcome option as locals start venturing out more frequently after summer.

Arnold Palmer's Restaurant — September 24, 2026

Golf and the Coachella Valley are inseparable, which makes Arnold Palmer's Restaurant particularly fitting for La Quinta.

Its late-September reopening also lines up nicely with the period when the eastern valley's golf communities begin becoming more active again.

Lavender Bistro — October 1, 2026

As mentioned earlier, Lavender is high on our personal list.

The restaurant's website currently notes that its dining room and lounge are closed for the season. Its combination of indoor and garden dining makes its return particularly well timed for the cooler evenings ahead.

La Brasserie Bistro & Bar — October 1, 2026

Another La Quinta favorite is expected back on October 1, giving residents and visitors another reason to start planning October dinner reservations.

The Sandbar — October 2026

The Sandbar is also expected to return sometime in October, although an exact reopening date has not yet been announced.

And that's worth remembering with all of these restaurants: reopening dates can change.

Indio Restaurants Reopening

Indio's dining scene has expanded significantly in recent years, and the city's growing collection of independent restaurants gives residents throughout the eastern valley more reasons to stay close to home for dinner.

Two restaurants currently on our reopening radar are:

Tack Room Tavern — September 4, 2026

Located in the equestrian area near the Empire Polo Club, Tack Room Tavern has a setting that feels distinctly Indio and distinctly desert.

CIE Sichuan Cuisine — September 22, 2026

For anyone craving something with considerably more spice, CIE Sichuan Cuisine is expected to return September 22.

It's another example of how diverse the Coachella Valley restaurant landscape has become. Greater Palm Springs dining isn't simply steakhouses and resort restaurants anymore. The valley has developed a much broader mix of cuisines and independent concepts, particularly as its year-round population has grown.

Why Restaurant Reopenings Matter So Much in Greater Palm Springs

If you're visiting Greater Palm Springs for the first time, the idea of restaurants closing for weeks—or even months—during summer might seem unusual.

For locals, it's part of the rhythm of desert life.

The Coachella Valley operates differently from many other destinations because our traditional "season" largely corresponds with the months when much of the country is experiencing winter.

From roughly October through April, beautiful weather draws seasonal homeowners, vacationers, golfers, events and visitors from around the world.

Summer is quieter.

And there are advantages to both.

During summer, locals get easier restaurant reservations, less traffic and a wonderfully relaxed version of the desert. By fall, we are ready for the energy to return.

The restaurant reopening calendar is one of the earliest signs of that transition.

August gives us the first wave.

September brings a much larger group.

By October, places like Wally's Desert Turtle, Lavender Bistro and Mitch's have returned, outdoor dining becomes increasingly comfortable, and the Coachella Valley begins settling into the lifestyle that makes fall, winter and spring here so special.

Planning a September or October Visit to Greater Palm Springs?

If you're looking for things to do in Greater Palm Springs in September or October, dining should absolutely be part of your plans.

But don't limit yourself to Palm Springs.

Spend an evening walking El Paseo in Palm Desert and have dinner nearby. Explore Old Town La Quinta before heading to a restaurant. Plan a special evening in Rancho Mirage. Try a locally owned restaurant in Cathedral City or Indio that you haven't visited before.

One of the pleasures of living here is that each desert city has its own personality.

Palm Springs brings midcentury architecture, historic neighborhoods and an energetic restaurant and nightlife scene. Rancho Mirage feels more residential and resort-oriented. Palm Desert revolves around shopping, dining, golf and El Paseo. Indian Wells is polished and intimate. La Quinta mixes historic charm with some of the valley's largest golf communities. Cathedral City and Indio continue to evolve with new businesses, restaurants and neighborhoods.

You can drive from one end of the valley to the other and find a completely different experience along the way.

That's something we sometimes take for granted as locals.

A New Desert Season Is Almost Here

There is something fun about watching Greater Palm Springs wake back up after summer.

It starts subtly.

A favorite restaurant posts its reopening date. A patio that has been empty for two months suddenly has tables set again. Reservations start becoming harder to find. Seasonal neighbors return. Golf courses begin preparing for another busy winter.

And suddenly, season is here.

We certainly enjoy the slower side of summer in the Coachella Valley, but we're equally excited about what comes next.

Our first reservations?

Wally's Desert Turtle in Rancho Mirage and Lavender Bistro in La Quinta are definitely high on the list.

Welcome back, desert dining season. We've missed you.

Important Dining Note

The reopening list in this article includes community-shared information, restaurant announcements, comments and posted notices gathered from local conversations. Dates are subject to change, and not every reopening date has been independently verified. We strongly recommend checking directly with the restaurant before making plans.
