Welcome to La Quinta

As Angelenos discovered the call of the desert wild in the early 1900s, some ventured farther east toward the Santa Rosa Mountains. Among them was entrepreneur Walter H. Morgan, heir to an oyster company fortune. He purchased 1,400 acres in the foothills and 1926 opened a Spanish-style refuge, La Quinta Hotel (now La Quinta Resort & Club). When the city was incorporated in 1982, it was named for the property and is one of the only two cities in the nation monickered after a resort (the other is Beverly Hills).

La Quinta now has 23 golf courses designed by some of the sports best. Six are run by the prestigious Club at PGA West, which opened in the ‘80s and now hosts the annual Desert Classic tournament.

Discover the area’s history and cultural artifacts at La Quinta Museum and meander the bougainvillea-decked cobblestone streets of Old Town, where locals gather for farmers' markets and art fairs. You’ll see why La Quinta is a vibrant destination for the whole family.
