MODERNISM WEEK 2023

Modernism Week’s signature February festival will take place February 16 – 26, 2023, highlighting midcentury modern architecture, art, interior and landscape design, and vintage culture in the Palm Springs area of Southern California.

This is a phenominal 11 day event in Palm Springs. It will feature hundreds of events including the Palm Springs Modernism Show, tours of iconic homes in more than 24 neighborhoods, walking tours, and nightly parties.

Here are some of our favorite events to check out this year:

Modernism Week Featured Home Tour: Yoasis – Enjoy midcentury design with uniquely Bohemian and Hollywood Regency style while touring the stunning “Yoasis” Featured Home by Grace Home Furnishings in Palm Springs’ Indian Canyon neighborhood.

A Case Study in Authentic Restoration of a Spanish Colonial Revival Home Tour – Step back in time to an authentically restored Spanish Colonial Revival.

House of Tomorrow Home Tour – Experience the newly renovated Alexander Estate, known as the House of Tomorrow, where Elvis and Priscilla Presley honeymooned in 1967.

Boots on Arenas — The Ultimate Street Party Celebration honoring Nancy Sinatra – Dance in the street to These Boots Were Made For Walkin’ honoring Nancy Sinatra.

Professional Color Consultation at CAMP – Stop by the Dunn-Edwards CAMP display for free color consultations or to meet with a representative.

Moved by Modern – Midcentury Modern Photography Exhibit – Architectural photographer, Deb Smith, will be showing photos in her Moved by Modern exhibit at the Palm Springs Library. Photos include buildings in Palm Springs and from around the country.

Red Tile Romance – Historian Steve Vaught presents how Spanish architecture became the signature style of Southern California in the 1920s with a look at some of Palm Springs’ greatest Spanish landmarks.

Festive Celebration of Permanent Nighttime Lighting of Palm Springs Visitor Center – Join PS ModCom, Mayor Garner and Modernism Week to celebrate the new permanent nighttime lighting of Albert Frey’s modern sculptural masterpiece.

‘The Alexanders’ Book Signing with Author James Harlan – James Harlan, author of The Alexanders, will give a talk about the famous Palm Springs developers and will sign copies of his book.

Hot Purple Energy Architectural Bike Ride – Join us as we pedal our way through architecturally significant neighborhoods in South Palm Springs and highlight midcentury homes!

Shag’s Modernism Week Print Release Party – Meet the artist and enjoy complimentary cocktails, live music by the Martini Kings and other fun surprises at the unveiling of Shag’s newest print at the SHAG store in the Uptown Design District.

Opening Reception with Gary Wexler and the deRoy Gruber Foundation – View the modernist screenprints and sculptures of visionary female artist Aaronel deRoy Gruber in a special exhibition presented in collaboration with artist Gary Wexler in his Palm Springs studio.

Modernism Week Vintage Car Show – More than 50 vintage cars from the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s will be on display at this free event.

A Preservation Plan Case Study: Owen Coffman American Legion Post 519 – Palm Springs Preservation Foundation board advisor Susan Secoy Jensen will present A Preservation Plan Case Study: Owen Coffman American Legion Post 519.

Tom O’Donnell: Generous Spirit of Palm Springs – Local authors Steve Vaught, Steven Keylon, and Tracy Conrad join forces to introduce Tom O’Donnell, one of the most extraordinary and transformative figures in Palm Springs history.

Revealed, Reviled & Reborn: 100 years of California’s Spanish Colonial/Mediterranean Revival – “Save The Plaza Theatre” update With J.R. Roberts and Katie Horak, followed by a history of the Spanish Colonial/Mediterranean Revival style in Southern California by noted architect, Michael Burch.
